Thetraveljunkie.org – Located in the heart of Central Java, Solo (or Surakarta) is a city steeped in royal heritage, refined culture, and authentic Javanese hospitality. During our Indo Trip, we had the pleasure of staying at Alila Solo, a modern luxury hotel that seamlessly blends contemporary architecture with deep-rooted local traditions. From the moment we arrived, the city’s slower pace and rich cultural rhythm enveloped us, offering a refreshing contrast to Indonesia’s busier urban centres. Alila Solo quickly became our sanctuary in the city. Rising above the city skyline, the hotel offered stunning panoramic views, especially during sunrise and sunset. The room was spacious, minimalist yet warm, with locally inspired décor that reminded us constantly of where we were — the heart of Java. The rooftop pool and Sky Lounge were highlights, providing the perfect space to unwind after long days of exploring markets, heritage sites, and nearby temples.
What truly elevated our stay, however, was the Alila Spa experience. Known for its commitment to local wellness practices, the spa offered an array of traditional treatments rooted in Javanese wisdom. We chose the Traditional Javanese Massage, a centuries-old therapy using long, rhythmic strokes and firm pressure to stimulate circulation, ease muscle tension, and restore inner balance. The massage was deeply relaxing — not just physically, but emotionally grounding as well.
The setting of the spa itself was soothing, with calming music, the scent of essential oils, and interiors adorned with batik-inspired accents. The therapists were highly skilled, intuitive, and respectful of personal comfort throughout the treatment. It was a cultural experience in itself — not just a massage, but a journey into Javanese philosophy, where harmony of body, mind, and soul is central to wellbeing.
This part of our Indo Trip offered more than just luxury accommodation; it provided meaningful insight into Javanese hospitality and holistic healing traditions. Alila Solo became more than a place to sleep — it was a place to reconnect, to pause, and to embrace the rich culture around us in an intimate way. Whether you’re visiting Solo for the first time or returning for another adventure, this hotel and spa experience is a must.
