Thetraveljunkie.org – In our last getaway in Gedangsari, Gunungkidul in Yogyakarta we enjoyed some incredible days at The Kamasari. And it is when a stay becomes an experience that it has really been worth it. We went to Gamelan pratice class in Mertelu Village. Java has rich musical traditions, traditional as well as westernized genres. One of theforms of well-known traditional music of Java is gamelan. Gamelan, derives from the word “gamel”, to strike or to handle, is a generic term referingto an ensemble which comprises predominantly of percussive instrument. However, vocal music has important role in the development of gamelan. In the beginning of this century, the term karawitan was introduced, embracing both vocal and instrumental elements in the gamelan.

Just a short stroll up the road from our accommodation in Bredängs Vandrarhem, we went for an early morning walk around this lake. The trees were still quite bare and we played with sheets of ice and listened to the ice cracking on the edge of the lake. There were little patches of snow covering the mossy ground. We watched a deer stroll cautiously about.

Thetraveljunkie.org – When we stayed at The Kamasari, Jatirejo village, Gedangsari in Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta. We went to Jarum Village, Bayat in Klaten, one of the central of traditional Javanese Batik. Only 30 minutes from The Kamasari. And we arrived at Batik Sekar Mawar, a batik factory that offers an immersive experience to its travel junkies and a super-friendly man opened the door with a very warm greeting. He’s Mr. Sarina. Listening to an awesome story of him, the history of Jarum Village and Batik, it amazed me to know someone who is so passionate about Batik and willing to share it with us.
