Traveljunkieindonesia.com – I am very excited at the moment. Another tough winter day in the Port Stephens. I had a really wonderful, simple, but meaningful days.
Here, Worimi Conservations Land (Stockton Bight Sand Dunes). This almost surreal dune system is up to 1km wide, 32km long and covers an area of over 4,200 hectares. The sand dunes can climb as high as 30-50 metres.
They are slowly creeping inland, changing daily with the winds and weather. It is the largest sand dune system in Australia. What better a place to go sand boarding?

Port Stephens 4WD tours takes groups of tourists daily out to the biggest sand dune of the day and set them up with a board and instruction.
That sounds great, until you are sitting at the top of a 40m sand dune with a board under your bottom.
So go we did, squealing all the way down the side of a pristine sand hill on the first run of the day.
With the wind in our hair and sand flying onto our legs we picked up speed and felt like we were flying. Once at the bottom there was no doubt we were going to climb that dune again, again, and again.

It was not as crazy, dangerous or pointless as I thought it would be.
It was actually quite a lot of fun! Especially for travel junkies.
It made me think. I could be talked into a whole range of dangerous and extreme sports.
As long as it was fun, and not life threatening, I’d do it. Luckily, Port Stephens 4WD tours will let you stay at the dunes for as long as you like within their hours of 10am to 3.30pm.
Okay. One day I want to try wakeboarding, windsurfing, mountain biking, whitewater kayaking, hand-gliding, sky diving, etc.
