Thetraveljunkie.org – Some journeys are measured in kilometres, while others are measured in years, memories and the courage to begin again. From Java Island, Indonesia, to Australia, my journey has taken me across borders and through different chapters of life. Today, I’m celebrating one of the most meaningful milestones of that journey: becoming an Australian citizen. It’s more than just receiving citizenship; it’s about finding a place to call home, embracing new beginnings and appreciating everything that has brought me here. Garuda, forgive me for forgetting you, but love is stronger than borders. These words carry a special meaning for me. I was born Javanese, raised with Indonesian roots, culture and memories that will always be part of who I am. Indonesia will forever hold a special place in my heart. Its landscapes, traditions, language, food and the warmth of its people are part of my story. Becoming Australian doesn’t mean leaving my past behind. Instead, it means carrying those memories with me while making room for a new chapter.
Australia has become my home, a place where I’ve built a life, discovered new opportunities and created countless memories. From everyday moments in Brisbane to exploring the beautiful Australian landscape, I’ve learned to appreciate the little things that make this country special. The people, the lifestyle, the open spaces and the feeling of belonging have all become part of my journey. Now, becoming an Australian citizen makes that connection even more meaningful. It’s a moment I’ll always remember with gratitude and pride.
For me, this milestone is also a celebration of identity and belonging. I’m proud to be a Javanese-born Australian, part of a story that connects two countries, two cultures and two homes. I can proudly celebrate Australia while continuing to honour my Indonesian heritage. I don’t have to choose between where I came from and where I belong today. Both are part of me. One heart, two homes, and a lifetime of stories to tell.
As I begin this new chapter, I look forward to discovering more of Australia, travelling beyond familiar places, meeting new people and collecting more stories along the way. There are still so many roads to travel, coastlines to explore and moments to capture. Perhaps that’s what life is all about: staying curious, appreciating where you are and never forgetting the journey that brought you here. This is not the end of one story, but the beginning of another.
