Thetraveljunkie.org – G’day legends! So, I finally got me mitts on the FUJIFILM XF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR lens, and let me tell ya, it’s a bloody beaut! I’ve been itching to see if this long-range lens could handle a proper Aussie wildlife adventure without me tripping over me own feet. Outta the box, it felt solid, like one of those cheeky mates who’s always up for a yarn but won’t let you down when the piss hits the fan. First things first, I slapped on me 67mm protector filter because, let’s be honest, I ain’t about to let a stray branch or a curious magpie scratch up me brand new toy. It’s like putting sunscreen on before a day at the beach – absolute necessity. The lens itself is surprisingly light for a 300mm, which is bloody perfect for a bloke like me who’s always running around chasing birds and wallabies with one eye on the camera and the other on the bush.
Now, here’s where it gets fun – wildlife photography! I headed straight to Tinchi Tamba Wetlands in Brisbane, camera in one hand, lens in the other, ready to nab some feathery action. And fair dinkum, this lens didn’t muck around. From rainbow lorikeets flitting about to an osprey looking for its brekkie, everything was crisp as a cold VB on a summer arvo. The OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) is a game-changer – none of that shaky hands nonsense even when I got a bit too excited spotting a pelican.
The zoom range of 70-300mm is pure gold. I could sneak up on critters without scaring them off – none of that “get away, human!” business. I even got a cheeky shot of a cormorant mid-dive, wings spread like it was auditioning for a nature documentary. Honestly, this lens feels like a bloody Swiss Army knife for wildlife photography – versatile, sharp, and built to withstand the rough Aussie outdoors.
Unboxing aside, there’s a bit of a story in every snap. I reckon every Aussie photographer will get a kick out of this lens because it’s not just gear – it’s an adventure starter. Walking through the wetlands with this bad boy felt like having a mate who’s both reliable and a bit of a show-off, always ready to capture the perfect moment, even when I nearly tripped over a muddy bank.
If you’re chasing a lens for wildlife photography, birdwatching, or even sneaky landscapes, the FUJIFILM XF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR is a ripper. Add a 67mm protector filter, and you’re sorted for anything the Aussie bush throws at you. Trust me, whether you’re a seasoned snapper or just a weekend bogan with a camera, this lens will make your wildlife shots pop and your mates jealous. Check out the full video for all the unboxing shenanigans and wildlife snaps – it’s a proper laugh, and your feed will thank ya.
