The sea breeze was crisp, the sky was wide open, and my Fujifilm X-E5 was ready for action. As we cruised further from Redcliffe Jetty, excitement bubbled through the passengers. The crew scanned the horizon, and suddenly—there she was. A majestic humpback whale breaking the surface like it was greeting Brisbane itself. Everyone gasped, but I froze for a second, mesmerised by its size and grace. Then instinct kicked in. I lifted the Fujifilm X-E5, dialled in my settings, and captured the first epic shot of the day.
The whales were feeling playful, showing off tail slaps, blowhole sprays, and slow, cinematic rises from the deep. It was like watching a live nature documentary, but from the front row. The ocean turned into a stage, and each moment felt more magical than the last. My camera didn’t get a break—burst mode was living its best life. The X-E5’s clarity and autofocus were perfect for wildlife, making every splash look like a masterpiece.
Between whale sightings, I wandered around the deck soaking in the views of Moreton Bay, Brisbane’s coastline, and the sparkling water around us. Redcliffe looked peaceful from afar, but out at sea everything felt alive and enormous. Other travellers shared their stories, kids cheered every time a whale surfaced, and the whole boat felt like one big family on the ultimate adventure. It was wholesome, chaotic, and absolutely fantastic.
As we made our way back to shore, I reviewed the photos on my Fujifilm screen and couldn’t believe how beautifully the day unfolded.
