Thetraveljunkie.org – Welcome to Episode 2 of our Raja Ampat Indonesia Travel Documentary! In this chapter of the journey, we’re flying with Garuda Indonesia on flight GA 682, departing from Jakarta (CGK) and arriving in Sorong (SOQ) — the entry point to the world-famous diving haven of Raja Ampat. The 4-hour flight across the Indonesian archipelago offers a smooth ride and scenic views if you’re lucky enough to have a window seat. This flight marks a turning point in our trip, as we prepare to explore one of the most remote corners of Indonesia. This episode begins on a sombre note. We didn’t film the check-in process at Soekarno-Hatta Airport because, truthfully, we were emotionally exhausted. In the previous leg of our trip with Singapore Airlines (SQ 962), we lost a critical piece of gear: our freediving long fins. The airline offered no support or solution, leaving us disappointed and helpless. It was a tough blow, especially when Raja Ampat was supposed to be a freediving dream come true.
Despite the setback, we made the decision to carry on with our plans. Travel isn’t always glamorous, and we want to show it all — the highs and the lows. The real journey lies in how we respond when things don’t go our way. This episode captures the essence of resilience and the spirit of adventure that continues even in the face of disappointment.
Flying Garuda Indonesia’s economy class was a refreshing experience. The seats were comfortable enough for a 4-hour domestic flight, the in-flight service was polite and efficient, and the aircraft was clean and well-maintained. There were no delays, and the boarding process was smooth. Although we were emotionally drained, the quiet comfort of the flight gave us time to reset and refocus on what still lay ahead.
Arriving in Sorong, we were filled with a mix of emotions. The sting of losing our freediving fins lingered, but the excitement of finally reaching the gateway to Raja Ampat helped lift our spirits. As we stepped off the plane and felt the tropical air, we knew we were getting closer to something magical — even if not exactly as we had imagined it.
We hope you enjoy this raw and honest look into our journey. Join us for this cinematic ride in 4K as we continue chasing adventure — with or without the perfect gear.
