Wet Afternoon at Paotere Harbour, Makassar

It was absolutely fantastic. It is definitely a must-visit destination if you are traveling to Makassar with or without children.

Traveljunkieindonesia.com – Eeeeep!! I spent just a few days in Makassar. The city is frenetic and crazy but has an incredible energy.

It’s a magical place and I hope to visit again sometime soon. I like to do something a little different for my life.

Dian Onno and I went to do a wild and crazy bentor or becak motor (motorcycle rickshaw) ride.  We were again cool, calm and excited.

A bentor ride is a wonderful way to see Makassar and get away from the city—it’s so busy it almost vibrates.

Traveljunkieindonesia.com – Everyday without itinerary! The other day, we went to dinner at Warung Mappanyukki, Makassar – South Sulawesi.

The setting was simple but it was a no frills restaurant, there were no entrees or desserts, just a selection of mains and the option of juices and teas. But, we got free bananas, yeah!

Service was nice and very homely. Price-wise it was expensive for Indonesian food but I was happy to pay.

Well, the installation of waste disposal equipment has polluted the sea surrounding Losari Beach.

The previously clear ocean water has turned into a horrifying black mess.

Beautiful Laga Handbags For Travel Junkies

Traveljunkieindonesia.com – Hi travel junkies! I found this amazing Laga Handbags — handmade in Aceh, Indonesia by women who survived the tsunami that took the lives of over 285,000 people.

The handbags are sewn on pedal-driven, non-electric treadle machines. Each bag is embroidered with hand-guided patterns that have been passed through the generations and are indigenous to this area. Each handbag is a unique piece of historical art.

These beautiful handbags have been given Indonesian names that depict hope after the tsunami: “Damai” (peace), “Sehat” (healthy), “Percaya” (believe)…

And, Fort Rotterdam is still a beautiful place to stroll or spend a day with the kids.

We arrived at 2pm. One of the best-preserved examples of Dutch architecture in Indonesia, Fort Rotterdam continues to guard the harbour of Makassar.
