Thetraveljunkie.org – I’m in Amphawa for Discover Thainess. This is the view from my resort dock on the Baan Amphawa Resort & Spa. It is incredibly beautiful here in Samut Songkhram. I will be posting more photos from here in the next few days, then I’m going to Ratchaburi – Nakhon Pathom!
Thetraveljunkie.org – While I was in Samut Songkhram, I attended an 1 hour, private how to make Thai coconut palm sugar — a famous quality product of Samut Songkhram.
A place where palm sugar is made is called “Tao Tan”. Before white sugar crystals became ubiquitous, Thais generally sweetened their food with sugar made from the sap of the sugar palm or coconut tree.
Thetraveljunkie.org – Hello! This time we were on the Mae Klong river, Amphawa region – Samut Songkhram. It’s the region famous for it’s palm sugars and Thai traditional lifestyle.
I enjoyed the privilege of a water taxi transfer from a local restaurant to a home producing palm sugar, compliments of Discover Thainess and I love wooden-boats so very much, there couldn’t have been a better introduction to Samut Songkhram for me.

We arrived at 12.15pm and the view was amazing!
It’s a very pretty place. We shared a huge of delicious Thai foods. This is what we ate.

I visited the home of a local farmer-cum-artist or Ban Phaya So and I saw how the coconut plant influences his life. ‘So’ or a fiddle is a local musical instrument of the Central Region. Ban Phaya So is a house of the alto fiddle (So U) maker who combines the art of traditional Thai music with carving.
Thetraveljunkie.org – I have heard so much about Samut Songkhram, but I’ve never been there before. It is about 72km from Bangkok, and it is famous for its rich culture, historical buildings and amazing food.
When I was in Samut Songkhram. I visited Baan Pinsuwan Benjarong, a home-industry producing exquisite ceramics which are hand-painted in colorful ancient era motifs.
Thetraveljunkie.org – When I was in Discover Thainess, we woke up at 6.30am and headed out for a fitness and breakfast. Cup of coffee. Thai fried rice. Breakfast was lovely.
We sat in our favorite pool. This is the second time I’ve stayed at Novotel Bangkok Platinum while visiting Bangkok and I hope it’s not my last. Came back to our room 2202 and took a bathtub festive for 1.5 hours. It was a really really nice start to the day.

Thetraveljunkie.org – I had the pleasure of attending and speaking at Nutrifood W’Dank Blogger Luncheon – explore the warmth of Indonesia through exotic culinary with The Travel Junkie at the Plataran Dharmawangsa in South Jakarta, with the actual gathering.
The venue was wonderfully decorated. I walked around and I felt like I was in a Sundanese-classic movie set or a period play…
The event was a W’Dank Bajigur tasting, combined with my ‘explore the warmth of Indonesia’ slides, and special lunch.

We’ve been hanging out at the river a lot. We organise to go with 6 or 7 bloggers from around the world.
Happy travel bloggers. Laughter, smiling and playing wonderfully. Thai ceramic handicraft. Puppet Show. Offer food to the monk. Organic farm, Thai dance. Spa. Exotic food.
Thetraveljunkie.org – Thai people are remarkably resilient in their way of life under the “sanook” (fun) and “mai pen rai” (don’t worry about it) attitudes to not get stressed out and to be kind and hospitable towards others.
Thai characteristic makes Thai culture, the Thai way of life and Thai experience very unique and sets Thailand apart from other countries.
