A Street Food Dinner with Bubur Ayam Barito

Traveljunkieindonesia.com – The other night, my friend kidnapped me to enjoy a simple dinner at a little area called Barito, South Jakarta.

There is an outdoor street food area, with tables under ‘fancy’ umbrella, push carts and under the trees.

I ordered Bubur Ayam (chicken porridge) with egg – what make this porridge special is the topping. Cheese stick, fried onion, celerry, tongcai (seasoned radish), cakwe, the big diced chicken and egg.

Taking me on a tour of an authentic Indonesian barber shop – Pangkas Rambut Mutiara – we meet the large personality Mamang as he discusses his sundanese aesthetic and love of haircut.

This meeting was one that happened by chance while I was walking towards on the way to Pondok Pesantren Darunnajah.

Traveljunkieindonesia.com – The other day I was invited to a Blue Lagoon Pearls workshop, Monkey Mia, Shark Bay, Western Australia.

There was a really lovely pearls workshop in the ocean.

Greg Ridgley, Director of Monkey Mia Yacht Charters Pty Ltd was also responsible for developing handling and processing methods to keep oyster shells disease free, and thus set standards for the rest of the pearling industry – which I found to be so so interesting.
