The lure of the exotic leads us to another one of our favourite tropical escapes: the beach of Travel Junkie. With forested hills in the behind, soft white sand and year-round warm temperatures characterize the tropical loveland.
Thetraveljunkie.org – One of the most enjoyable things in Karimunjawa Islands was the sun setting. Every day we watched it from a different beach taking pictures with our smartphones and seeking the best light of the whole island. This snaps were at Batu Topeng Beach, a beach near Tanjung Gelam and one of our favs. Our perfect afternoon can be summarised as: swiming, coconuts and local cakes. There is no place in the world to be happier than in Karimunjawa Islands, Central Java.
Thetraveljunkie.org – There are two types of people: those who enjoy a relaxing holiday under a palm tree and those who want to go on a activity holiday. We’re part of the second group and that’s why when we stayed in Karimunjawa we organised a snorkeling trip around the Karimunjawa islands, Central Java. Base on a true story, Nazi U-boat sunk during Second World War is discovered in Karimunjawa Islands – complete with skeletons of its doomed crew.
Thetraveljunkie.org – When we stayed at Yotel Singapore. The hotel is chilled, welcoming and has plenty of open spaces, hence why we love it. We discovered Grains & Hops Restaurant on 10th floor, and were quite surprised. It’s the perfect spot to tuck into delicious food. We have to admit that we’ve also tried the breakfast and it was incredible.
Thetraveljunkie.org – When we stayed at Yotel Singapore. The other day when wandering around a city, you stumble across a little treasure of a shop. That’s how we found Onlewo in Jalan Besar, Singapore. This interesting area is a hotspot for artists, writers, makers, architects, coffee baristas, crafters and designers, who operate from studios and shops to make their contributions to Singapore’s art, design and gastronomic landscape. The delightful retro looking Tiong Bahru print fabric caught my eye as I passed and I couldn’t resist popping in for a look. What a delight!
Thetraveljunkie.org – We were delighted to live an incredible experience with Yotel Singapore in a daydream environment, Orchard Road in Singapore. That time was just like a dream, like coming back in time. We began the day with breakfast in the wonderful Yotel Singapore enjoying the very beautiful views of the city. After that, We took an MRT trip to discover different and unknown places in Singapore. We really enjoyed this, because even having been already a couple of times in the city, in this trip we discovered other locations. And our last destination was Chinatown, full of surprises.
Thetraveljunkie.org – When we stayed at Yotel Singapore. We went to Grains & Hops Restaurant for a playful spin on traditional rice bowls paired with home-cured skewered meats and seafood is served. I fell in love as I stepped inside the restaurant. It is one of those places that our would find it impossible not to like. Definitely one of our new favorite restaurants in Singapore.
Thetraveljunkie.org – It’s 7am. Our alarm goes off. We open our eyes, we get up and look out of the window. The light and the sun reflecting off Singapore’s skyscrapers wish us a good morning. It’s the first time we’ve woken up at Yotel Singapore, bang in the middle of SG. It’s Orchard Road area and 3 minutes away from Orchard Station. Being so near everything and having a bird’s eye view to enjoy it all is amazing. We had an incredible room which allowed us to take in Singapore’s unique light.
Thetraveljunkie.org – Today we bring you to the Plaosan Temple complex in Klaten. The temple was constructed in the mid-9th century. It was a journey into the ancient Javanese world of Sailendra dynasty, magical, and mystery. The temple was built by a king, Rakai Pikatan. She married to Pramodhawardhani, a daughter of Samaratungga. Rakai Pikatan was Hindu while Pramodhawardhani was a Buddhist. Rakai Pikatan adored and loved his wife very much. Rakai Pikatan built Plaosan temple as a gift for her wife. Although he is Hindu, he built Buddhist’s temple to proved his love to his wife. For me, it is such a romantic true love story. It matters not who you love, where you love, why you love, when you love or how you love, it matters only that you love. Love is love. We can have what we want, because love wins.
Thetraveljunkie.org – We love inspirational documentaries. They capture moments of clarity that highlight truths about travel, adventure, and life. The Staging Post a film by Jolyon Hoff, follows two Afghan Hazara refugees, Muzafar and Khadim. Stuck in Indonesia after Australia ‘stopped the boats’ and facing many years in limbo, they built a community and started the school which inspired a refugee education revolution.
Thetraveljunkie.org – We know we’re a bit tiresome and we’ve said it quite a few times already, but our love and appreciation for the great heritage continues to increase. We believe respecting, looking after and admiring culture should be part of everyone’s daily existence. This is probably one of the reasons why we decided to head to Kampung Batik Laweyan in Solo, Central Java when we did; to enjoy one of culture’s greatest spectacles: the batik process.
Thetraveljunkie.org – One of the things we like the most about big islands such as Java is being able to enjoy them from a different perspective. we’re constantly on the lookout for the best view and we came across a pretty cool one during our last trip to Central Java. We were motor-biking around Wonogiri when we came across the Bukit Cumbri at 11am. We found an amazing hill where you can enjoy the city once we arrived on the top floor with 2 geckos.
