A fullblown Indonesia addict, so far she’s visited Java, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan and Maluku, and spends far too much time in Bali.

Favorite island: Bali for living, Morotai for adventure.
Favorite fancy restaurant: L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, London.

Least favorite food: The rancid, sandy goat fat I had to eat in Mauritania once
Drink of choice (In the air and on the ground): Negroni
Favorite travel movie(s): Anything filmed where I’m going, or where I’m at: Priscilla, Queen of the Desert in Coober Pedy, Australia, The English Patient in Egypt, Lawrence of Arabia in Jordan, the Last Emperor in Beijing…
Favorite travel song(s): Bitter-Sweet Symphony
Favorite travel show(s): 30 Rock and Doctor Who are pretty much the only shows I watch.
Favorite travel book(s): Anything by Jon Krakauer: it’s the internal journey that gets me.
Right now I am reading: Affinity by Sarah Waters and Ancient Egypt — Myth & History by Geddes & Grosset.
Five things you bring on a plane: Vaseline, water (where allowed), pen, notebook, book.
What do you always seem to forget: Toothbrush and toothpaste on night flights.
What do you want your loved one to buy you from an airport duty free store? The ingredients for a good Negroni: Tanqueray 10 gin, Carpano Antica vermouth, Campari. In my dreams!
Most embarrassing/worst travel moment: I was sick as a dog and hallucinating in a hospital in Mali, where the girl next to me was dying of TB, and the doctor stole the antibiotics I’d brought with me. Then he came back and asked me to read the label and tell me if he could use them for his sore throat. That was pretty low. I realised I could die there, quite easily.
What’s your dream destination: I’d love to see Antarctica before it’s gone. Even though flying will help make it so.
Favorite travel blog/website(s) – besides Traveljunkieindonesia.com, of course!: My son’s, naturally! http://kidventurer.com. He doesn’t update often but he’s always hilarious.
Best travel tip: Don’t overplan. Travel is supposed to be an adventure.
Happy green travels!
