Walking in Den Haag, Holland

Thetraveljunkie.org – Some places always remain dear to one’s heart. Den Haag can be said to be one such place. The city of peace and justice. The city of the cosmopolitan and the beach. From new styles to old masters. From shops to palaces. From exotic cuisines to Dutch fishing harbours. I’ll never get tired of coming back. Yesterday walking around Willemspark, Voorhout, Zeeheldenwartier and the Hague Center.

Discover the Stories of the Netherlands at Madurodam, Den Haag

Thetraveljunkie.org – The other day, I went to Madurodam in Den Haag. It was really cool! Madurodam was established in 1952 as a war memorial to war hero and resistance fighter George Maduro, who died at the Dachau concentration camp on February 9, 1945. The parents of George Maduro provide the initial capital for Madurodam. I took a long walk. Here is so much to see, discover and do at Madurodam. The models are exact replicas of special buildings and objects, on a scale of 1:25. Through intensive daily care, the greenery, especially small-leaved trees and shrubs, is kept to a maximum of 60 centimetres high.

I love Amsterdam. I would make our way to Javanese-Suriname Restaurant for lunch, the food is delicious and not very expensive. After lunch, I would head over to Van Gogh Museum with iamsterdam. Our fave thing to do is to walk from Van Gogh Museum to  Rijkmuseum, where I love to kill my free time by people watching around. Then it’s back to Mercure Amsterdam City for an evening drink!

Thetraveljunkie.org – I visited Amsterdam recently for a reader gathering and my choice of hotel was the one and only Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City, set in a beautiful location by the river and provides easy access to the ArenA, Ziggo Dome, Zuid-As business district and the center of Amsterdam. You can also reach the city center by public transport in just 10 minutes – and yes, it is the travel junkie hotel. Here is how our stay went.

Between Amsterdam Central Station and Almere Centrum, Holland

Thetraveljunkie.org – We did a trip to Almere and took advantage of whatever little spare time we had to get to know New Land, modern architecture meets futuristic urban planning, all while embracing the water and nature that surrounds Holland’s new land – just 30 minutes from Amsterdam. Since then, Almere became one of our favourite ‘European New Towns‘, a suspicion which was reinforced by our latest stay in Almere: we cannot wait to go back.
